Try retarding the timing to see if it goes away. Should be -2 to +5°. Who knows where the ol' pigeon farmer set it?
Other wise, get it warmed up and idling. Try revving the engine a bit, not screaming. Let off, rev again, Listen for the knock. It might be steady at a high idle too. If you do find one, try unplugging the plug wires at the dist cap one at a time, while it runs. Do the rev again. Unplug the wires at eh dist, so you don't get zapped. See if one makes it worse, or better. That would be the culprit.
