Remove hoses. Block bottom outlet with hand. Fill radiator with water. Remove hand, water should blast out, like flushing a toilet. (Both are gravity flow) Slow flow, and a sucking noise in the top via rad cap port, means radiator is plugged.

The plug consists of 'lead bloom', a white oxide where the tubes are soldered to the top header. Probable cause is oxygen in the water. Though my auto shop teacher did tell us that distilled water would be a good idea, maybe the bloom is calcium form the tap water. Antifreeze helps, but most of these trucks have gone through decades of being 'just an old truck', no need to fill with antifreeze, water will do.

Anyway, shops used to remove the top tank, and run a wire through the tubes in a process called 'rodding'. I suspect that has been replaced with a caustic or acid flush.

But I don't think we have any radiator specialists for members?
