Installing rebuilt engine

Guys,

I'm installing a rebuilt flat six in the 48 Dodge PW and the mechanic is asking me how many quarts it will take and the type of oil to use.

I bought 2 oil filters from NAPA and installed one but I had to really force it into the cannister which makes wonder if its the correct one - NAPA said it was. If anyone could supply answers to these questions I'd be greatful.
