water distribution tube installation

OK have a new brass tube. Just how tight are these? can hand slide in everything except the last 3 inches. Do these need to be convinced with a block of wood and hammer? Again this is a 251, and the tube is 25.5 inches which matches the inside length. a little hesitant to drive it home.
Any one with experience in this?
