2 barrel carb on a 230.

I know dual one barrel intakes have been made for the flathead, but has anyone ever just machined off the one barrel flange flush with the base, machined the opening, then drilled and tapped for a two barrel pattern? I'd think there'd be enough meat there to pull it off. Would a two barrel gain much over the factory carb/governor setup? My governor is being moody, and since I'm milling the head .070 this weekend, I thought I'd look into doing that mod as well.
