Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, maybe air. Check all the fuel fittings to be sure none are loose. Look for a cracked fuel hose.

If all looks well, I would get a gallon can for a temp fuel tank. Keep the line as short as possible from the temp fuel tank to the lift pump. Keep the return line short also.

This will eliminate all fuel lines and pickups in the tank.
