Simply band saw in half on the seam (grip in big channel locks, things can roll your fingers right in to the blade) Lay the flat side ont he drill press table, drill for 5/8 hole using a Forstner bit. Use the logo molded in the 'end' to center the bit. Finito.
Install with round end inwards, that ought to act as the pilot to center the bushing in the hole.
I've got blue balls ;^) to go with the truck color, but they are available in other colors.
I can;t find the durometer spec, but they are about as soft as tire tread, shore A-60.
Cost less than $10 for a hole set. And I bought an extra for the dog.
