thanks everyone for the help. it is the first time in 20 years i have had this happen. it seems silly that no one has created a better protected heat shield for the fuel pump. the fuel line can be shielded with a sleeve available from summit, but shielding the pump better seems to be a no brainer. notable that this is my first dodge with vapor lock and it is my first dodge with zenith carb model 29.
