Hi Dana,
I had the head milled, and reinstalled it. I refilled the coolant but left the oil plug out. I kept a watch under the oil pan for traces of leakage, as it had leaked down just sitting before. My reasoning was that if there was a crack somewhere allowing the coolant to leak into the oil, redoing the head wouldnt fix it, and the coolant would continue to leak down. I left the engine alone for about a month, while working on the cab.
Finally, last weekend, I decided it was time to get back to figuring out why it wouldnt start. I tinkered with it and was able to get it to run, for about 3 seconds at a time. I didnt get a lot of time to work on it this week, but thought about it a lot. I came to the conclusion that it was the carb. I had a new carb, that someone had taken the gaskets from (go figure) but I had a carb kit on hand. Today, I was at the shop waiting for a delivery truck to bring materials for a cabinet job we are starting soon. While I waited, I put the kit in, adjusted the float, and swapped it out. Switch on, choke out, pump pump and hit the pedal. After cranking fort about 5 seconds she was running! Now let me tell you, that was great! I decided to back it out of the shop just to feel it move under its own power, I moved all the tools etc, opened the garage door, was back in the seat ready to let the clutch out, when the delivery truck arrived. Bummer. I shut it down, unloaded the truck, and had to head back to the job site. So, the maiden voyage may be this weekend!
Tim
