Keep in mind that body panels never seem to want to go back on as easily as they came off. I wouldnt give up on getting the water pump off in place. I have done it several times and it really is doable. Try bracing the wrench against something and turning the fan blades, you will get more leverage than by the wrench alone. You can replace the hoses in place too.
Dont pull that sheetmetal!
