Probably to fit a slot that they had filed wider to clean up it's wear.

When I got mine, somebody had replaced the pin with a too-small high grade bolt that they affixed by welding the top to the outside. The weld heat embrittled the too small bolt, it broke the body off the head, which left a too small of a pin bouncing around in the hole. Very sloppy, but it hadn't worn the slot. Grinding the weld off and tapping in a hard pin fixed it all up.
