Some of these haulers crybaby about fuel and on and on and then convince some that they are going broke if they dont charge going and coming, then they get the job, first thing you know they have a 55 foot trailer with a single axle medium duty diesel with overdrive trany and 3 or 4 powerwagons/tractors/cars or parts boxes of powerwagons on the truck getting paid by each owner the going rate for a single haul up and back, then they are charging anybody else as well who might have a parts box or another truck or car between the back and forth route when one truck or car is delivered, thats how they make money if they are smart, some call tht double dipping or triple dipping or even quaddruple dippinglol They can make money going and coming to the most remote truck or car pickup up to $8 a mile if they can hussle and arrange time to try to hussle loads out and back along the travel route, thats smart business if you can pull it off, some do sometimes some get burned sitting in a 18 wheeler truckstop begging a broker for any kind of load so they will have money to buy eats ad enuff diesel to get home, its a vicious business, many run too cheap to make money but r just trying to make a payment and get home sometimes. If you going into mountain states figure on averaging 10mpg with a 5.9 or 6.7 dodge cummins set up with $4 a gallon diesel, that works out to $40 per hundred miles driven or 40 cents per mile just for diesel, lots of these guys drive 700 miles a day. What kills them with dead trucks is stuck brakes, flat tires, locked out gates, dead or missing battery or gasoline runs out right on the ramp and there winch controller is not workinglol. Everything happens when you are on the road alone and in the dark trying to load up a dead car or truck or tractor or meet somebody who cant even get directions straight to his own houselol What also is bad lots of guys are afraid to tell a trucker where the truck is to get a quote as they worry about the hauler buying it or telling someother buyer about the truck to get another aload, thats part of buying stuff away from your usual stomping grounds. You would think a hauler or trucking company would get a deal with a chain auto parts store or a dodge dealer chain to pick up in there parking lot to get some increased business at either location and be of service to a customer of either store. You can bet these guys at dealerships and auto auctions are getting the cheapest rate they can hussle from truckers as well and get every space on a car hauler filled so as to keep the per mile cost down as opposed to a single truck going out and picking up a load deadheading. Dont forget the hood blowing off due to being loaded into the wind as well wreckslol Sweptlines favorite trik is 2 unlatch the crummy hood latch and break the windsheild, rip out the hinges and dent the cablol
