The shoe grinder I used had a micrometer feed, and some adapters for the shoes. After mikeing the drum, you set the machine to the proper radius, and used a hand lever to rotate the shoe against a spinning drum. Turning a hand wheel advanced the shoe into the drum. You ground until the drum made full contact to the shoe for full stroke.

In '75 they told us not to use it anymore, shoes were supposedly pre-arced. That meant they came undersized, to make contact in the middle until they wore in. Contact at toe because of oversized would make the shoe grab, so undersized it is. Leads to a mushy pedal because the shoe can flex under the pressure.

Brakes make about 1,000 psi. The pedal is a lever with 7:1 ratio, you can lift your own weight with the right leg, so 250# x 7 = 1750, times about the one square inch of piston in the master, = 1750 psi. Divide by the area of the wheel cylinder piston, and deduct for those "substandard human beings" who can't push with 250# with one leg. ;^)

Being a pita to adjust these trucks, arcing is a good idea. I am going to have to find a local outfit to do a reline, I hope they can arc them to my 14.160 drums.
