seat control valve

My '48 B1-PW has a plaque on the dash reading "seat control valve" It appears to read "soft" on the right and "firm" on the left. The plaque resembles the shifting instructions on the glove box, except it is screwed on instead of rivited. I can find no other evidence of this valve or anything unusual under the seat. Was this an original Power Wagon option, or is this just something the truck acquired sometime in the last fifty years?
