Jack Garner has the correct story (below)It was a fund raising project for the Pioneers. Anyone could buy as many as they wanted. I have one of the real ones that is is in rough but restorable shape. It is for sale. Has the same aluminum utilty box front and back winch but has the PW front boom instead of derrick as the toy has. The boom had an auger to drill holes for poles. The front winch is the biggest stock winch ever found on a PW. Spool shaft ranges the full width of truck and is about 2 1/2 inch in diameter. This truck has a unique aspect that is a gear box fed power by the rear portion of the PTO then it has multiple outlets to enable running many ptos at the same time. It uses this so the front winch fed auger and the rear winch can both be working at once. The rear winch raises and lowers the boom and auger while the front pto turns the auger, all controled from the driver seat. The truck is quite complete but rough. Still has the Michigan Bell Telephone property tag and body Manufacturer tag. It needs more PW parts than the utility parts. 1950, $3500. 100 miles north of Detroit. Price also includes pole trailer of same size and vintage.
