Yes, almost all engines feed their oil to the cylinder through the crank. I agree with casebro, get a mechanical oil pressure gauge to test true oil pressure, don't trust the gauges. If the test gauge indicates low oil pressure, pull the pan and try to shake the connecting rods. Any palpable movement indicates a bad big end bearing. Then try to shake the crank, again discernable movement is not good. Lastly attach a pressurized source of oil (I use a modified pressure cooker, but a pressure pot used for spray-painting will also work) to the engine block and look for large flows. This will indicate a bad bearings position. Let us know what you find.
