There are 2 versions of the 727. A small block 727 and a big block 727. There is also the small block 904. Its identical to the small block 727 in 99% of the internals. I think the 727 has more clutches in it and the tail shaft is longer on the 727 then the 904. In muscle cars you would have to shorten the drive shaft going to from a 904 to a 727.

On trucks I do not know for sure but I do know the big block 727 truck tranny is shorter then the car big block 727 because my 1974 D200 440 has a car 727 in it and you can see where they cut the drive shaft down.

The linkage and mounts should be the same on all the trannys. Its just a drive shaft issue. There is no bell housing swap to my knowledge.
