Some in the hot rod community claim that drum drilling improves braking ability to equal that of disk brakes. The holes supposedly also provide an exit for water, dirt, and heat. I would think however, that the characteristics of our heavy old flat fenders might, or might not, be a different story. Any one have any experience with this on our trucks? How safe might it be under load?

Note: As I understand it, drum drilling is a precise science. Not the kind of thing you'd want to try in your back yard.
