I know a guy who had 2 or 3 of his engine mounting tangs or lugs repaired by welding (the tangs at the rear of the engine that allow the engine to be bolted to the transmission). This is in an amateur race car, powered by a 4-cylinder Ford engine from a Pinto. (This engine is common in the amateur racing circuit.) He has had good luck with this so far, even in this severe application, so I think your situation could be remedied. It has to be done right, though, when it comes to cast iron.
