If you can afford it, do it. The offset rods are the weak link on these long stroke motors and need all the help they can get. If your gonna keep the rpm's religiously below factory redline, you'll be alright, but they won't take overeving without some carefull prep, and shotpeening and dye-pen or magnaflux is the place to start. After that a good rotating assembly balance. I personally like the extra insurance these processes give. It already costs enough to redo these motors, might as well try to make it last as long as you can.
