Since there have been a few recent discussions of engine and transmission swaps:
There's starting to be adapters for attaching the front half of the NP203 fulltime transfer case to the NP205. This box is 5.75" long, a bit longer than 8" with adapter. It's cast iron with big helical gears, no planetaries, no chain. It gives a low range or either 1.96 or 2.01 and a low-low of 3.94. There were a few divorced NP203s made so theoretically a divorced NP203/205 unit could be assembled. The assembly isn't much longer than a 203 but is HEAVY - I'd guess 275 lb. Furthermore, since both GM and Ford versions have "standardized" 6 bolt patterns on the front, and adapters are now made for both Ford and GM (Fords are mirror images of GMs in both 203 and 205 since Fords have the front diff on the driver's side) mixing and matching can be done.
Offroad Design at www.offroaddesign.com makes the adapters.
If someone really wants to go nuts on low range you could put a Klune-V planetary reduction box (similar to most modern transfer cases for US made pickups) in front of the 203/205 and get about 10.8:1 low range or about 300:1 total lowest gearing for another 7".
I didn't do that on my F350, I figure 110:1 will be enough even with 11.00R16s.
