trucks have a-frames not "gin-poles"
a gin-pole is a vertical member with a crown
block that is (was) used to build transmission line towers (and oil dericks) in areas where a crane could not be used for the lifts or where the tower height execeded the working limit of the crane
used in the 50's before helicopters
still used for tall communication towers
the pole was secured to the tower & then "bootstraped" up after each lift or few lifts to the height required to make the lifts.
we used a-frames on PW's to lift the GIN-POLES from a pole truck and position on the towers
lots of plans for A-FRAMES should be available.
