I had points on my old setup and converted to electronic igntion and it solved a lot of problems with timing and keeping things adjusted. You could carry a spare Ignition module with you and a ballist resistor and be safe and have a better running motor. then with points. With the points setup and the engine off while using accesories you might be pulling current through the points and burn them out. Something to think about.
