my take on the whole thing is that i don't want to pay for your healthcare or your pension, period. if you have a govt healthcare or pension fund, you better be contributing to it at levels HIGHER than the public sector. Not because you don't deserve it, it doesn't work mathematically. you cannot have more people working for the government than in the private sector, period. a bus driver for the city cannot make more than a privately employed bus or truck driver as the private company is in effect competing against his own tax dollars. the way the public sector workforce was envisioned was to have lower pay, but offer stability and good benefits for years of service.
somehow it all got screwed up
