And fed my family . Painted a few houses in the summer . Teaching pay is not excessive .
I have painted with a brush and an airless sprayer . i will never use just the brush again . After awhile I developed a technique where I would spray a rectangle as big as I could reach and then I would pull a brush from my pocket and give the area a quick few strokes . The gun works fine and gets paint into the cracks but the surface looks like the undercoating from a shultz gun . So the brush would fix the texture to one I liked better . I would paint right up to trim and use a piece of cardboard to block off the trim . You have to wipe off the cardboard with a rag every once in awhile . The gun will need to be loaded quite often , but even then the whole house paint will be about 30% of the time that just the brush would take . Several of my friends now use my patended technique . They paint one side of their house each summer . So far all of them have said "thankyou what a great idea " 4 or 5 days painting one side of the house is managable , 15 to 20 days is not .
Average time to paint a 1600 square ft house , split level was about 10 days , all 4 sides . The going rate around here is now around 12 to 17 grand - those quotes are from professional painters and exterior only .
A used paint pot with lines is faster .
I am painting some of my house this summer - did the wood shed last year . The gun I use is a Lemmer , I got the last one out of their warehouse - I like them better than the wagner but the wagner would be easier to get parts for . Clean the gun and keep the piston lubed and the gun is good for years .
