Most likely a Kaiser Jeep M35A2. Engine is probably an LDT465-1C or -1D. If non-turbo, it's an LD427. Engine probably made by White, Continental or Hercules, all the the same specs. Trucks were made in the same factory for almost 30 years, but the factory was owned by various companies over the years. First it was Reo, then Studebaker, then Kaiser Jeep, and then AM General. Kaiser Jeep would have likely been late 1960s production.

If he needs new rubber all around, he might want to consider "super singles". I believe they are available surplus as well. Not sure of the size... 11.00-20 perhaps? The neat thing about the Rockwell axles is you can turn the hubs on the rear axles around and then the offset is perfect for rear singles to track the front axles. Don't know of any other axle that lets you do that. Singles reduce tire wear and fuel consumption. I like dualies myself because I still have plenty of spare tires, and I like the fact that if you pop one, the other will carry the load until you get to a convenient place to change it, plus half the time you can change it without a jack.

If he needs any general help with M35 stuff, have him contact me. I've run 2 of them for almost 10 years now and know most of the quirks and maintenance issues. They are good simple trucks and are hell for stout. Not good for extensive highway hauling, though. They will eat front tires fast if you do that, and the rest of the truck isn't too happy about it either. Great for heavy loads off-road, through snow, mud, and creeks.
