I doubt if the old time rivets were heat treated to a desired tensile or shear strength. Maybe just regular mild steel i.e. 1013? Even maybe not even that? On this particular rear cross member there are 12 rivet holes and I don't think it is really a load bearing application, so Grade 5 or 8 I'm sure will suffice. THX for advise!
