Thanks for the tip. I'll check the PCV system. That's about all that I'll put money into on this car at this point. It's got 220,000 miles on it, which is still sort of young for a Honda, but it's accumulating too many problems. If I had more time and it was in better shape otherwise, I'd pull the engine, pull the head again and put new rings in (there was no ridging on the cylinder) and swap in the tranny from my old Honda car, which was still sounding fine at 280,000 miles. But honestly, if I'm going to put that kind of work into a vehicle, it's going to be an old Dodge or at least my grandpa's '67 Chevy pickup, not a rice wagon.

I agree about the tranny shaft bearings. Most likely the input shaft bearing is bad. I'm not sure how the gears are set up in that unit, but 5th might be coupled direct, not putting any side load on the mainshaft like the other gears do. 5th is definitely the quietest and 4th is the worst. I can's say 1st, 2nd, or 3rd are very good though. What's strange is how all that oil got in there. The tranny is only supposed to hold 2 quart, and there was at least twice that in there. Also strange that the bearings would go out with so much oil like that.
