If you have the dana 60 front axle, the drive flange can be replaced with Selectro Mile Marker hub #11034

If you have the much more common Dana 44 axle, swapping the whole axle may be easiest.

Yes the driveshaft always turns. Putting a selectable locking hub on will result in the vehicle only driving with the shifter in one of the "LOC" positions, other wise the front driveshaft will just spin, driving nothing, same as if one tire was off the ground in a convenitional open diff rear passenger car axle.

These full time (chain driven BTW) NP203 transfer case weren't that bad from a operational standpoint. All the big three used them in late 70's. Dodge introduced the NP203 in the 1974 Ramcharger. It & W series trucks used the case from 75-79, I don't think they offered anything (meaning parttime) else during those years.

Mileage was reported to be worse than a part time case & the aforementioned front axle component wear was greater.....Plus the chains did stretch over time.

But it was a good set-up, maybe not as good as some of the Jeep Quadratrac/Selectrac stuff though.

Its best to leave it unmodified & just get a part time T-case if thats what you truly want.
