Don't know if you've considered a DuPont system, but there are some with no time windows for re-spray. You pay for it, but it would solve some of your time issues. I've been using it for the last year with great results, dealing with the same time issues. 7044S primer is a 2K that acts as both a sealer and surfacer/filler. Sandable in about 4 hours, sanding is a little more work, I let it dry overnight. Then it's easier. Three recommended coats builds alot, equal to 6 coats of laquer primer. It's a urethane based product, tough as nails. Smooths out great, final sanding is with 500-600, then top-coat. About 320.00 a gallon with activator and reducer. 4-1-1 ratio. Needs an etch primer first for bare substrates, which can give alot of build beforehand. Even though it sounds expensive, you save alot in the long run because you are taking out the sealer. And if you have been using laquer fillr primer, you would generally use about 3 times as much, which costs more. The idea behind it's use was to replace filler primers that have no lead in them any more. That's why folks needed to use so much laquer primer to achieve tangible results. Once the lead was taken out(not a bad thing) it changed the parameters of it's use. The urethane aspect is what gave it it's great building ability, as well as the sealing ability. Ok, enough of that....I'm off to shoot some Imron....would love to see the Road Runner!
