you can go over 50 all day with 5.83 gears. On an old worn out engine 50 would be tops. read the data plate on the dash it says 54 or 55 top speed in 4th. they weren't lying. ;/) when you go over that speed is when you start to do damage as the rpms go over 3200 and the film of oil on the bearings starts to shrink.
