The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.....its great that Ryan is taking an interest in the old iron.
Last Sunday my 20 yr old nephew Jeff was over for dinner.....I don't believe he's ever held a wrench, .....maybe he's pulled a dipstick once or twice in his life.
We had time to kill before dinner so I asked if he could help me remove the rear wheel on the W350. The shoulder isn't 100% yet and I needed help to replace the leaky hub oil seal. The plan was he would do the heavy stuff and I would supervise. We started with removing the wheel, with that done I decided to have a "teaching moment" and continued on and showed him how to pull the rear axle and remove the drum and hub.
He was more than eager to learn and I was happy to see how mechanical he was.....we had the old seal out, the new seal in and everything back together just as dinner was ready.
It was a good experience for both of us, he learned something new and I learned more about him......we need more moments like that.......Last I heard he told his mother that he wants to trade his Jetta in for a truck.
