I had Betts Spring in San Leandro, Ca design and make springs for my Carryall. During our conversation, I asked the engineer at Betts Spring if they would supply the new springs with teflon between the leafs. The Engineer said absolutely not ! Betts will not build springs with teflon nor will they guarantee springs that have any type of lubrication between the leafs.

The engineer told me with lubrication springs in the 'right' conditions could over extend. He said normal friction between leafs is required for proper spring action. Based on that discussion with a major spring maker, none of my springs are ever lube'd.

I can not discuss the pros and cons as I am not a spring engineer. I went with what I was told by the spring engineer at Betts Spring. Betts Spring as been in business over 100 years, they should have a good feel for spring engineering.
