im all for eliminating sources of future failure. gm alternators, and ignition systems provide dirt cheap, easily available replacements for the quirky stuff. i run a one wire alternator in the command car because the orig generator was too big to run along side the power steering pump. i had it altered to kick in at the low rpms the 230 runs at and had it made self exciting so that it starts charging right away without depending on a dummy light circuit, etc.
