The video didn't show a log on the other side as well, but on a truck with an open differential you'd need one on each side. Some tractors have a mechanism for locking the differential, or for separating the brakes so you could use the brake to lock the wheel on the side without the log. I think it'd be a piece of work to unstick a truck using this method, but better than abandoning the rig and hiking out 50 miles if you were way back on the boonies somewhere. The worst mud-holes where I drive are the dry lake beds of Nevada and Southern Oregon in the spring, and around the boggy seeps in the desert. In those places there isn't a stick of wood in sight (and no place to anchor a winch), though I suppose a desperate man might steal a pair of fence posts.
