Stabil makes a marine ethanol treatment that disperses the alcohol in the ethanol so it doesn't disolve the rubber.
I asked the manger at the local chainsaw shop if ethanol was causing problems with chainsaws. He said yes, definitely. Not so much the white flashing on the metal parts, but the rubber parts are being eaten up. He said Stabil ethanol treatment helps. I am using it in all my old engines now.
