I think a plug could be made to fit in to the rear of the reverse shift rail opening. There is a flat plug in there now. New plug would have a hole in the middle, threaded to accept a NC switch. Putting tranny in reverse would slide rail slide forward, closing switch, reverse light comes on.
I made my own harness with all the necessary wires, but haven't gotten around to making the plug. I guess I ought to tool up for several. Switch would have to be gear-oil proof, with loong threaded shank for adjustment. Shouldn't be hard to find.
