I may not be saying this correctly, but here's something to check.

The POWER WAGON front drive shaft has a CV joint at the NV271 manual shift, two-speed, part-time transfer case.

This drive shaft has a lubrication fitting that was not on the RAM 2500 and might be overlooked by a mechanic who was not specially trained to service it. I still have to ask the service manager if that fitting was lubed. So far, it gets lubed after I ask.

Some front drive shafts on the earlier 2004 RAM 2500 4x4’s failed and were replaced under warranty. Now the parts computer shows the Ram 2500 4x4 was upgraded to use the same front drive shaft part number as the POWER WAGON. There's a stick-on lable on the radiator tank that shows this lube point.

Another issue is that the correct way to shift the transfer case into low range is to stop, put the transmission in neutral, turn off the engine, shift the transfer case, and then restart the engine. Oh, yes... that's in the owner's manual but it's very hard to find. I don't know if incorrect shifting would be a cause.

My 2005 completed six years the end of February. No clunks.
