I think there's probably supposed to be a shield under the switch. I know there is on the M37. I would look at the telephone truck for you, but it's buried in the snow on the other side of the mountain now. If the dimmer switch is like I'm used to, it has a pot-metal housing that's crimped to a phenolic disk that the terminals go through. If you have a nice clean one, I would smear some RTV (silicone) all around the edges and the terminal rivets to keep the water out. You're right about it being directly in line for road gunk.

How much snow you got up there? It's been snowing to beat the band all day here in Wallace. Heavy wet stuff, but it just keeps coming down. Fortunately we only had a foot to start with so it's not time to start mucking off the roofs yet. Keeping the city boys busy with the plow and loader all day. Might need the Tucker to just get around town by tomorrow!
