Dave,
My 98.5 Cummins had the 4.10 gears; my 2004.5 has the 3.73's. I miss the ability to launch while towing. Both trucks were similarly equipped, but the 4.10's really got things moving faster.
It's a shame that you cannot get a manual in the Ford.
I have high hopes for the new in house diesel engine. I am a lifelong Ford man driving a couple of Dodges! If they optioned the Cummins for the Fords when I was shopping it would have been a no brainer. I think that Ford is always on the forefront of light truck technology, and they have had enough of the Navistar problems. So I suspect the new 6.7 will do well.
Good luck; sounds like a nice truck.
Eddie
