you should be at 3200 rpms at 55 mph. on an old engine you might want to keep it around 50 MPH. dont believe your speedo. you might be going faster than you think. have someone pace you in another car. ON rebuilt engines I will run 55 on the highway with stock 36 inch tires nad 5.83 gears.
