I have had great luck just letting the cyls soak with diesel for a day or two and then smacking them with a chunk of wood and a hammer. then put the head back on and see what happens. Knock the rust off of cyls that have some with some fine sandpaper. 3/4 of the engines I have done this to (10-15) have ran fine after with no other problems.
