you can thank Warren Buffett and his Berkshire Hathaway operation for the China-made boots.
When Justin industries sold out to Buffett, he basically destroyed the 3 boot companies involved.
When I worked for Justin, (Acme Brick operations), the Justin Boots were mostly made in Missouri, with an additional small plant in Ft. Worth. The Nocona Boots were made in Nocona, and Tony Lama were made in El Paso. Buffett and his bunch shut everything down and moved it all overseas. Goodby to hundreds of American jobs.
now, his beancounters are destroying Acme Brick with their cut and slash policies. I believe Acme is down to about 8 ir 9 operating plants, from a high of 20. And no, it is not all due to the economy. Hundreds more jobs lost, forever.
Thank heavens I retired before the buyout.
