The consensus seems to be to use some sort of electric or air chisel. I'm going to get a good bull-point chisel for my Bosch roto-hammer and see what I can do with that. Meanwhile, I'm drilling a bunch of 3/4" holes around the perimeter. This is good strong rich concrete with good solid river rocks embedded in it. I guess I should be glad there's no rebar. At 2-1/2 feet thick, it doesn't need any. I would rent the masonry saw, but Jerry says it'll cut 1/3 of its blade diameter, which is only 6" deep. Out of a 30" wall, that still leaves 24", except on the parts of the high side that are up above the floor enough to get the saw in place. Fortunately I don't care in the slightest what the hole looks like. The more I look at it, the more I think there's really no room to swing a 12 lb double-jack with any real force. It's part way up the wall on the low side, the ceiling is too low on both sides, there's equipment, ducts, and pipes in the way, and there's no way to stand above it and swing down. I can swing a small drilling hammer to chip out the odd piece, but I should be able to use the chisel bit in the roto-hammer to do the same thing. I appreciate the advice about the chain saw being too slow. I wondered about that, since the examples show it cutting thin materials like pipe, not solid walls. At least I won't waste time trying to find one. It might do okay through the cement and sand, but not the solid rocks. I will probably end up having to chisel out around the larger rocks and pry them out. This is one of those projects that I should do a little bit at a time and not try to finish it all in one shot.
