What do you mean by a "small impact hammer"? Do you mean like some kind of little hand-held air chisel, or do you mean a sinking hammer? I don't have a big compressor, though the wrecker is parked outside and its compressor would run an air chisel. I suppose I could put a chisel point in the roto-hammer and see how it did. No I don't care at all about a nice neat edge.

The original hole looks like it was drilled with a jackleg, probably when Hecla owned the building. They probably just detailed one of their miners to do the job. It was cut out by drilling a bunch of 2" holes pretty close together all around the edge. Would have been a pretty quick job with a jackleg. Maybe if I just drill a couple holes each day with the roto-hammer, after a few weeks, it'll be done.
