pulling rivets

anyone out there got a good tip or two on removing rivets from cross members. I did get the rear one off, but man, what a bugger. Heating with the torch does not seem to want to work that well. Also, I hear tell that a lot of guys are replacing removed rivets with nuts and bolts.
Seems untrue to the truck, but if putting the rivets in is anything like getting them out, I would have to understand. TX
