OK, so got the M37 engine all set to start. My buddy Neil wanted to be there for the big event. We proceeded to crank it over, but had no spark. We checked for power, had it in all the right places, except the plug wires. Neil has a 38 Chevy that he bought that had been in a barn since WW2 whose owner had been killed in the war He had gotten it running and then changed out the ignition parts. He could get no spark. He tried everything, but still could get no spark. He grounded out the condenser to the distributor body, got a spark and the condenser made a pop, and the started the car right up. He had no idea why. So, back to the M37. He suggested we do the same, which we did, and voila, we had spark and the engine fired up!
Can anyone explain why this might be? I know about polarizing generators etc but have never heard of having to jump start a condenser.
Thanks,
Tim
