I have to agree with Clint. Six volt trucks start fine if they are in reasonable condition.

The extra two volts, which makes the lights brighter and the heater more powerful, are a one third increase in voltage. Sure things don't burn out right way, but you are paying a price in decreased life. This is not a problem with light bulbs, but a heater motor or a fuel gauge is different story.

I read that for one kind of bulb, a five percent increase in voltage results in a 15 percent increase in the amount of light, but a 50 percent decrease in life span for the bulb.

While I suspect six volt equipment has a much greater reserve, what's the point in running eight volt batteries if the trucks starts well anyway on six volts?
