6 Volt Starter

The last time I started the WDX about a month ago, the starter seemed to stay engaged a while after the truck started. Now, when I tried to start it to put it back in the barn, it sounds like the starter is turning over, but the starter gear is not engaging the flywheel. The switch on the starter gets real hot real quick. I charged the battery, but no difference. Is this problem probably a bad switch, bendix, or starter?

Doesn't your WDX have a starter pedal? mine does - Allen Patnode 6:44PM 01/12/2001
