I want maximum off road capability with the ability to get to 55mph.
As far as a gas sucking hog, those who have converted to a 318 tell me that they went from 9 mpg at best with the 230 at 45mph to 10 mpg with the 318 at 55 mph. OK, not great, but no worse than the original setup. And certainly no worse and in many cases far better than some of the current maxi-size SUV's out there.
This isn't a daily driver. My goal is to not take all year to get to Eastern Oregon. We have only two Interstates in Oregon (I-84 & I-5) where legal speeds above 55 mph are possible anyway.All the rest are state highways where 55 mph is the limit. So 55 mph suits me just fine.
